Alison G. Southern
Lawyer (Counsel)
Family Law, Fertility Law, Adoptions
Alison G. Southern, Barrister & Solicitor
Alison (she/her) helps her clients resolve their family law issues efficiently and effectively while assisting them through some of the most difficult times in their lives. She regularly helps clients negotiate separation agreements, parenting plans, and amending agreements. Though obtaining timely out of court resolutions to family law issues is ideal, this is not always possible. Alison has substantial court experience, having argued motions, trials, and appeals in various areas of family law litigation, such as complex property and support issues and high conflict parenting cases.
Clients who are in the military or have a military spouse have the added benefit of a lawyer with over 14 years of experience as a Reserve Force officer and who has several family members and friends in the Regular Force. Alison understands issues unique to people in this situation, such as the compensation structure (including allowances, TD, and tax considerations), parenting issues related to postings and lengthy deployments, and other issues affecting military families.
Alison is also honoured to assist people with their legal needs during some of the happiest occasions in their lives, such as adding to their family through assisted reproduction or adoption, moving in with a partner, and getting married.
Alison is very involved in the legal community. She enjoys mentoring new lawyers and has had the privilege of being invited to speak at both law schools and professional development programs. Notably, Alison spoke on a panel in early April 2020 about the rapidly evolving state of family law litigation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alison is counsel to Fresh Legal and practices in association with Fresh Legal, not in partnership, providing services through Alison G. Southern, Barrister & Solicitor.
